Is my cat, my younger but bigger cat (who loves the laptop) with a cute little pooch below his tummy. I don’t know why he’s chubby (or why he refuses to realize it and tries to sit on my shoulder anyway). He plays fetch a lot. He runs around like he’s hearing voices and he is constantly crawling over us humans. He doesn’t even seem to eat more than Phantom. Maybe he just needs a little kitty treadmill or some fat burner pills so tone himself up. He’s still cute either way. I think you’ll agree. I really wish I had a great picture of him alone but, for some unexplainable reason (are you noticing a trend with my mystery cat?), I can’t take good pictures of him.

When you have cats and those cats have claws, you tend to have furniture that doesn’t look quite as nice as when you first purchased it. At least, that is the case for us and our cats and our furniture. I have been meaning to do something about it for a while but never got around to it until I saw a 3 pack of Guardsman Furniture Touch Up Markers for brown furniture on a clipstrip in Wal-mart. Since they were right there, I took the plunge.

This 3 pack includes a light, medium and dark brown marker for all your furniture touch up needs. They work best for small to medium scratches where only some of the finish has been removed. Bigger scratches are better fixed/hidden with furniture wax sticks.

The instructions say to start with the lightest marker so you don’t go too dark and to have a soft towel handy for wiping away any ink that gets anyplace other than the scratch. This is good to remember ebcause I got ink in a few places around the scratches and it’s a little darker than the rest of the pieces, now. Almost all of our furniture is really dark brown or black so I may never have a chance to use the light or medium. I did try with the medium first but it was so light it barely made a difference to I switched to the darkest marker almost right away.

I was really impressed with how it worked. Some of the smaller scratches are practically invisible now. The medium sized ones are more “blended” in and you can probably see them if you’re trying to but they definitely look much better. The improvement is awesome.

It seems like Guardsman makes a variety of shades as well as a few sets of furniture touch up markers. They’re even available in black and white. The company also makes a whole slew of other furniture care and repair products for your wood, leather or fabric furniture and I’d definitely look to them for my future needs after using the Guardsman Furniture Touch up Marker Kit.

We have occasionally called Phantom a menace ever since we got him. As a hyperactive kitten and now a curious cat who loves to chew holes in the cat food bags, he has given us a fair share of grief. I love him, still, of course. As I speak, he is sniffing around the desk. Maybe he’ll bug his brother and they’ll knock the phone off again (I hope not). Oh yes, the food bags? I have to put them in plastic Wal-mart type bags to cover all the holes. As I was doing this the other day, the entire bottom fell out because Phantom chewed complete through it. There was more “hole” than “bag”. Guess who gets to go shopping for pet supplies to find a food bin? You guessed right, that would be me.

Bedtime is frequently more difficult for me than it ought to be. It starts with making the bed. Our sheets have a tendency to shrink when I wash them so putting the fitted sheet back on our monstrous pillow-top mattress is always hard work. If you’ve seen the videos of women being laced into corsets, with a knee in the back as leverage, it’s something like that and usually leave me painful and out of breath. I really need to get some better fitting sheets but our bedding is all a set and our top sheet is stitched with a gorgeous design.

If that’s not enough, the cats always get riled up when I make the bed. They chase each other over, under and around the sheets and I always have to move them out of the way. When I’m ready to go to sleep, they chase each other over the bed (and me). I tell myself I love them, though.

If I had a timeshare in some Vegas vacations, though, I wouldn’t have to deal with all this. (I’m sure the cats would make up for it somehow).

Like earlier tonight when Phantom let go a monstrous spray of his masculinity at the wall and covered a bunch of things sitting on my desk with urine. Or the other day when someone chewed and clawed open a packet of kitty treats I had out and ate them all. I won’t name any names but one black cat had a very upset tummy for some reason. Perhaps he swallowed some foil, hmm? Needless to say, I was cleaning up kitty sickness for that whole day (and just found another spot a few moments ago, ugh). It would be nice if, instead of carpets, we have hard wood floors and area rugs which could be taken outside and hosed down during these times. Or even area rugs over our carpet. Arg. My arms are still sore from scrubbing down the carpet 2 days ago.

I actually broke down and boughjt ihm a harness and leash to take him on walks but, as soon as I let him out the door, he just kind of sits there. I’ve tried to walk him to the mailbox but he doesn’t seem to ‘get it’ and I wind up carrying him the whole way instead. Of course, when we’re not looking, he runs outside as fast as he can and I get to chase after him for fear that he will get hit by a car or attacked by some raccoon. It’s almost enough to wish I were in a position to consider fence installation but I’m not and I’m sure he would escape a fence as well.
