It is a well-known fact that it only takes a few seconds to make a first impression. Though this primarily relates to first impressions of other people, this also rings true about first impressions of an event. You want to make sure that your party goers are excited about your party from the moment they approach your door until the time they leave. By having a few things in place, you can be sure to have your party swinging and your guest singing with holiday cheer.

Plan Your Menu

The food is what brings a party together. You want to make sure that your food is tasty and plentiful throughout the night. Make sure that your spread fits your theme. For example, you may want to put a twist on the holiday and have a Hawaiian themed Christmas. Do some research on traditional Hawaiian dishes and incorporate them into your menu. If you are not familiar with the dishes, be sure to test out the recipes a few weeks before your event. For a more traditional Christmas, liven up the recipes when possible. Throughout the party, it is good to have finger foods for the guests. Try something innovative and unexpected that will keep your guests talking; for example:

  • Collard green spring rolls
  • Dressing-stuffed turkey meatballs
  • Crab stuffed deviled eggs
  • Cake pops (for dessert)

Decorate According to Your Theme

Use your decorations to support your dinner theme. Referring to the previous examples, if you are having a Hawaiian themed Christmas, then incorporate Hawaiian elements, such as leis, tiki statues and palm trees. With the traditional Christmas, pick the color scheme that you would like to utilize and place those colored accents around the house and integrate them into your Christmas dinnerware. Whatever you choose, make sure that you incorporate it all around your party space, as well as outside your house. You should aim for your guests to feel enthralled in your theme from the moment they set foot on your lawn.

Be Innovative with Your Party Favors

Drive home your theme with party favors that support it and remind your guests of the night. Do not let the creativity stop with the party; give your guests a little piece of the night to take home. A great way to do this is to incorporate the party favors into your decorations. For instance, they could be the scented pine cones that you have around the house or the snowflake ornaments you have on the tree. Get creative!

Make sure that your party wows your guests from start to finish. By planning a themed meal, decorating your house to support your theme, and creating innovative party favors, you will have the makings for an unforgettable holiday party.
