Share and Tell

I can’t lie: Earth Day is one of those holidays that I don’t usually think about. It flies right past me without me noticing, and I really can’t turn off all the gadgets for a day considering that I work from home. Still, I do appreciate the thought behind it and if we still weren’t supposed to get more snow — ugh, I know! — I would be looking out on an awesome, green day.

I remember celebrating Earth Day mostly as a child. It was a time to learn about trees, but I imagine that children like my sister would be learning about global warming as it’s happening to us right now. One thing that I especially remember is receiving little saplings in elementary school to take home and plant. In fact, I had just asked my Facebook friends if they remembered doing that not too long ago. I had completely forgotten that it was for Earth Day!

Although the things we teach kids and the way we teach them might have changed, Earth Day remains a constant. It’s good to spread the word about helping the environment, refresh your knowledge on today’s hottest topics and get the discussions going. To this end, NBC is helping celebrate Earth Day with its “Share & Tell” campaign.  The company has partnered with Yerdle, a sharing site, and you might not be familiar with it. Neither was I when I first heard of it, so I took some time to explore.

Yerdle is one of the many sites where you can find stuff for free and give away all that stuff that’s been cluttering up your attic or garage to someone who might actually have use for it. After all, it is time for spring cleaning, isn’t it? Yerdly goes on step further by encouraging users to share their stories about giving and receiving via the website, which is awesome. Yerdle has some awesome shring videos on its site if you’d like to check them out. You can sign in o the site with your existing Facebook account, too.

For its part, NBC has developed an app that allows you to spread the news about Yerdle on your favorite social network. You can also like the “Green Is Universal” page on Facebook to get started with sharing. The app provides a handy list of ways you can start sharing immediately, a quiz to see how green you really are and you can read through stories by successful sharers.
