#5hourGoesPink for October with Pink Lemonade

Date Tue, October 21 2014

Would you believe me if I told you I have never  tried 4 Hour ENERGY before this blog opp? In fact, I don’t even like energy drinks like Monster. I’m not a fan of the taste or the calories or the smell. But I figured I would give 5 Hour Energy a shot — no pun intended — especially because the brand has partnered with Living Beyond Breast Cancer to do some good this month.

You might have noticed the pink ribbon bottles of 5 Hour Energy in your local store. When you purchase the special packages, the company behind 5 Hour Energy will donate to Living Beyond Breast Cancer. The company will be e donating at least $200,000 to Living Beyond Breast Cancer. Last year, the brand donated over $325,000! Living Beyond Breast Cancer provides support to patients, family members and medical professionals who live and deal with breast cancer. It’s a good cause, I think. While the focus of breast cancer fund raising is often on finding a cure — and that’s certainly important! — humanitarian efforts shouldn’t be forgotten.

With this new branding comes the pink lemonade flavor, which I was able to try. I have to say that it’s okay. I don’t love it, but 5 Hour Energy shots are small, so you don’t spend a lot of time tasting it. The original gulp reminded me a bit of pink lemonade Koolaid. It became a little more syrup-y with the following swallow. You might not even notice if you have a mouth larger than mine. It’s hard for me to do shots of anything. LOL!

I tried this when I was dead tired. In fact, I was planning to sleep. I felt rejuvenated for a few hours before I went to sleep, and I actually had a difficult time staying asleep, which I bet this contributed to. In normal circumstances, most people wouldn’t try this before bed. I just wanted to see what would happen!

The ingredients list doesn’t contain a bunch of sugar, either. Some of the ingredients include:

  • B6
  • B12
  • B3  (Niacin)
  • Folic acid
  • Caffeine
  • Taurine

These ingredients are all safe; although, some people may experience a temporary reaction consisting of flushing and tingling because of the Niacin. Trying half a bottle at a time can reduce this.

One of the benefits of these energy shots is that they’re only 4 calories. Sodas can be hundreds of calories, so that’s great!
