Man, has it been years since I relied on actual pads when I had my periods. This mostly due to low flow thanks to my IUD, but my period has never been really heavy. A single pad could last me all day, and I only need a couple pantyliners most days. I switched to tampons mostly because of the security that pads didn’t offer.

You see, I was never a big fan of pads. They were bulky and plastic-y. They wouldn’t stay in place unless you used wings, which would often just stick to my thighs. It was a mess. I ruined more than one pair of underwear, that’s for sure.

Kotex is trying to change all that with their new 3D Capture Core, which wicks away liquid from the edges so you don’t get the dreaded “outline.” You know what I mean! I was given the choice to try their Cleanwear®, AllNighter® or Security* Ultra Thin pads with 3D Capture Core. I chose the Ultra Thin pads.

Kotex Security* Ultra Thin pads with 3D Capture Core weren’t the perfect fit for me, however. It had nothing to do with protection as I have light flow most days, but I’m mot accustomed to using daily pantyliners that are pretty much paper thin and only about half the size as Security* Ultra Thin pads. In fact, there’s an outline in the pads where the core ends that perfectly matches the size of the pantyliners I normally use. Those fit my panties perfectly, but the core in these is in the center where it can trap blood rather than letting it spill over the edges.

This means that Security* Ultra Thin pads were far too wide and long to wear with my panties. They’d be great for overnight support. In fact, I can’t imagine how large the overnight pads would be. I triple checked these pads to ensure I hadn’t grabbed the long or overnight, but I didn’t. The Ultra Thin pads are thick and large enough that I didn’t feel comfortable enough to wear them with leggings, so I only wore them with jeans.

With that said, my needs are much less. I’ve never had much of a heavy flow. I use tampons 2-3 days during my period and simply rely on the pantyliners the rest of the time. Although I would opt for a slightly larger pad if I didn’t use tampons, the Security* Ultra Thin pads are just too big. If you’re the type who likes to wear super short shorts during the spring time, you might want something a little smaller, too.

Here’s hoping I can keep dressing for spring!

As for me, my spring hasn’t involved any shorts, and we only had weather warm enough for tank tops a few days. In fact, we had snow two weeks ago? Can you believe that?! And as I type this post right now, it’s just above 40 degrees, so I’ll probably opt for leggings and a long sweater today. If I had my period, I would probably not grab Security* Ultra Thin pads with 3D Capture Core.
