I love science and lip products, so there’s little about Physicians Formula pH Powered Lip Gloss that didn’t attract me.
According to the description on the website, this lip gloss comes
- with pH Power Complex transforms into your perfectly personalized hue.
- Fluorescein Based Dye-senses the pH level of your skin & adjusts within 60 seconds to create your perfect lip color.
- Photochronic Powders-light adjusting pigments adapt to your environment so color looks the same indoors & outside.
Well, that’s pretty amazing, isn’t it?
It’s also confusing because the lip gloss comes in three different shades: light pink, natural and pink. I picked mine up in light pink but, to be honest, it’s nearly clear when applied to my skin as a swatch. This makes it exceptional as a top coat if you’d like to add some shine to your matte lipstick or stain. I expect that the pink shade would be more vibrant if you were looking for that, however.
While I like the glossy effect, it’s not something I’d want all the time. It obviously enhances my natural pink with just a bit of shimmer, but sometimes I want a more velvety look or something that’s more of a red hue.
The light pigment means there’s not much color to transfer while you’re drinking or kissing.
Because it’s a gloss, it is sticky, but it feels nice on my lips. It’s not drying.
There are also a few elements about this product that might be selling points; although, you might also find them to be gimmicky. The wand actually has a button at the end, which activates a light that shines down the length of the wand. A small mirror on the side of the tube itself reflects that light, enabling you to (re)apply your color even in the dark. I haven’t had a need to do so, but I can see where it would come in handy.
However, not everything is perfect. The brush itself, which has bristles rather than a wand, is quite short. I would like for it to be just a bit longer for easier application.
If you’re okay with the fact that this Physicians Formula pH Powered Lip Gloss might just look like clear gloss, then it’s not much of a risk to try this product. The light and mirror are also useful. However, your shade selection is certainly limited.
