Welcome to Lip Week — a week full of lip product reviews! These posts are partly inspired by my quest for the perfect dusty rose lip color. I’d prefer it to be creamy or velvety, but not matte nor glossy. I prefer a liquid lipstick without shimmer or glimmer. It’s a pretty basic request, but it’s harder than you might think.
So you might be surprised that I wound up buying a shade called “Garnet” in this quest, but I assure you that it looked rather dusty — both in the tube and on the wand — in store. I even double-checked with a friend. I was hopeful.
Sadly, I am not longer hopeful. I worried that this shade would be too bold, too bright and too pink.. and it is. I wouldn’t quite call it a hot pink (that’s more the shade Pink Amethyst), but it’s a deeply-saturated pink that anyone who came to age in the 80s would likely love. LOL
In fact, it looks nothing at all on my lips like it does in the tube. Although, your mileage may vary. That’s how lip colors work, right?
With that said, the color is bold and super glossy. Although, it’s definitely not an all-day color or transfer-proof. It is, sadly, a bit sticky.
It’s also worth mentioning that it uses a brush rather than a wand. I think I get a more precise application with a wand; although, I know not everyone agrees. One thing I’ve noticed is that the brush picks up a lot of product, even if you try to scrape some off, so you wind up with a glob on your lips that you need to spread around.. Yea, it’s as fun as it sounds.
If you want a lip color that’s vibrant and shiny, then Revlon Ulta HD Lip Lacquer might be up your alley. I don’t think I’ll be picking up any of the other shades in the collection due to some of the cons. But if I did, I’d probably look at one of the red shades. Strawberry Topaz looks quite desirable!
