Petbrosia Cat Food

Date Wed, June 11 2014

I was excited to receive a 10-pound bag of cat food to review for my boys.  So let’s talk about Petbrosia.

It’s more than just a food. It’s a service. You register your pet, fill out some information about breed and health, including dietary issues, and you can subscribe to the service to have pet food delivered right to your door. Petbrosia seems like it’s in its infancy. Right now, cat foods are based on chicken, and the website says salmon will soon become available.  So I received a 10-pound package of chicken-based cat food from Petbrosia. The ingredients list is as follows:

Deboned Chicken*, Chicken Meal, Brown Rice, Chicken Fat, Pea Starch, Pea Protein, Sweet Potato, Dried Cooked Navy Beans, Menhaden Fish Meal, Peas, Dicalcium Phosphate, Menhaden Fish Oil, Natural Chicken Flavor, Sunflower Oil, Potassium chloride, potassium Chloride, DI Methionine, Carrots, Salt, Choline Chloride, Taurine, Natural Antioxidant, Dried Apple, Blueberries, Cranberries, Dried Kelp, Chicory Root (prebiotic), Glucosamine, Chondroitin, Chelated Minerals (Zinc Proteinate, Calcium Carbonate, Iron Proteinate, Potassium Chloride, Copper Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Sodium Selenite, Calcium Iodate), Vitamins (Niacin Supplement, Vitamin E Supplement, Vitamin A Supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Calcium Pantothenate, Riboflavin Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Folic Acid), Probiotics (Dried Enterococcus faecium fermentation product, Dried Lactobacillus acidophilus fermentation product, Dried aspergillus niger fermentation extract, Dried Trichoderma longibrachiatum fermentation extract, Dried Bacillus subtilis fermentation extract)

It is still a pretty long list. Petbrosia will also tell you about the moisture and matter content of pet food and how much protein, fat and fiber is in each serving. Petbrosia promises that its food is free of fillers and easier for animals to digest.

However, there’s no recommended serving size on the site. You’ll need to look on the bag or on the information that comes with it. According to Petbrosia, I should feed Phantom 3/4 cup per day, which is about what I was giving him, anyway. Your pet’s profile on Petbrosia will tell you when you should reorder food. According to Phantom’s profile, 10 pounds should last him 2 months and 11 days. However, I will be feeding both of my cats so I know it won’t last as long.

If you keep your food dishes full, you’re may be sabotaging your cat’s health. Especially if you’ve got a less-active, overweight cat who likes to chow down.

Anyway, my Petbrosia order showed up in a square box in just a few days. Inside the box was a foil bag with a plastic zipper containing the food. This keeps it safe and fresh at home but also adds an extra layer of protection during shipping. I typically switch cat foot to a plastic storage container, but I had just bought cat food from the store, so my Petbrosia cat food is still in the bag inside the box.

How to safely switch pet foods

How to safely switch pet foods

When you switch pet foods, you’ll want to do it slowly. Start by adding a little of the new food to the old food. Every few days, add more food until you’ve completely replaced the old food. Petbrosia’s guidelines are to the side. I had no problems making the switch. Except my cats seemed to prefer the Petbrosia cat food, and would leave the old stuff in the dish! LOL

Petbrosia’s food comes in smaller pieces than the cat food I typically use, and it definitely smells “meaty.” This is something I usually notice more with wet food, but you can definitely tell meat is a main ingredient with this dry food. My boys had no qualms chowing down on it.

Whenever I switch cat foods, I look out for a few things like whether it makes them sick. I had to switch flavors of my typical cat food when PetSmart ran out of it, and the salmon made Phantom quite sick for a while. Both Phantom and Goliath are fine with Petbrosia’s food. I also like to pay attention to their coats. Goliath sometimes has dander. I noticed it a lot this spring. He seems to be doing a little better, but it’s now shedding season.

As always, my boys like to chase each other and things around. They’re happy and healthy. This makes me happy.

Petbrosia pet food is a cool system, and some people and pets may really benefit from it. If your cat has issues with chicken, you’ll have to wait until more protein options are available. Furthermore, not everyone will be happy to pay higher price tag. 10 pounds of cat food costs over $30, which is twice as much as what I am paying — and I know some people already consider that to be expensive. However, the folks at Petbrosia estimate a diet costing just $1.77 daily, which really isn’t that bad in the long run.

If you’re considering a service like Petbrosia, you’re probably already a conscientious owner who wouldn’t mind spending a bit more anyway. You can try out 3 Pounds of Petbrosia Pet Food for only $9 dollars with free shipping with the promo code:  BRM8N9. New customers only
