@RimmelLondUS ScandalEyes Retro Glam Mascara

Date Thu, November 7 2013

I’ve used the same mascara for a couple years now. It’s fairly dramatic and doesn’t wash off, which is a big deal when you cry as much as I do. I’m sort of kidding. It’s been an emotional year. What can I say? However, I was super stoked when I realized I’d be getting Rimmel London ScandalEyes Retro Glam Mascara to review in the Rose VoxBox from Influenster (thanks guys!). The mascara I’d used for quite a while before that was Rimmel. In fact, I still have a tube floating around my bathroom. Man, I should totally throw that away!

Yea, I guess this looks a little retro

Yea, I guess this looks a little retro

This mascara claims to be eye-popping and non-clumping. I can proudly proclaim that both are true! I have tiny eyes so anything that makes them look bigger is a plus in my book. This mascara doesn’t add much in terms of volume, however, which is something that I do like.  There’s another product in the line — Scandaleyes Lycra Flex — that I’d love to try, though.

It’s still a good win. My one complaint is that it’s not waterproof. I don’t even know why companies make non-waterproof products to be honest. People get caught in the rain all.the.time. I cry.. a lot. It’s pretty much a necessity. Even when those things don’t happen, mascara that isn’t waterproof tends to smudge. Unfortunately, that is the case with ScandalEyes, so you may want to invest in a lash primer. Of course, that  can cause clumping.

I’m not sure if this is due to the new wand, which is hourglass-shaped, or the formula. However, I do like the wand. The larger end makes it easier to get the smaller lashes toward the corner of my eyes. It doesn’t offer any curve, though. I didn’t curl my eyelashed before snapping a few photos, but I should have. They’re absolutely straight as a board otherwise. It’s still a good look in the photo above, don’t you think?

Maybe it's retro?

Maybe it’s retro?

So I’m supposed to write a post about which  glamazon the 60s this product makes me feel like I’m channeling. The only problem is, I’m so not into older movies and I’m not up on my models. I literally had to Google women and the list I landed on had no one I’d ever heard of. Except for Audrey Hepburn, and that’s not really me.  So I went for a deep red lip and smokey eye look and, wouldn’t you know, by the time I was done, I realized who I was channeling: me!

You see, I’d basically replicated my high-school makeup look. LOL I didn’t realize it, but I also kinda don’t mind. I mean, it’s retro for me, right? You’ll see what I mean if you take a look at the photos here.

See for yourself here. Forgive the brows and hair in need of some major styling!

However,  if you curl and keep the dark eyeshadow under the crease and your brow light, you’ll really have more a retro look a la Ms. Hepburn. But aside from that, do you think I’ve channeled anyone? I bet you guys know all about those retro starlets better than I do!

And how you would do “retro” style makeup? Or would Scandaleyes simply become part of your every-day makeup? Because I think that’s likely how I will wear it — on dry days!

I encourage you guys to try it out yourselves. This brand-new product is available this month. You can order it on Amazon.
