Homestyle Macaroni and Cheese

Homestyle Macaroni and Cheese

I’ll keep this short and scathing.

Seen the commercials for the new Homestyle Macaroni and Cheese from Kraft? Did they make you drool when they pull the steaming dish out from the oven?

Stop it!

All this is is deluxe macaroni in cheese in a bag, instead of a box, and with the addition of a tiny packet of bread crumbs. Essentially, you make it per usual, with the small exception of mixing milk, butter and the included sauce (not dried packet) before tossing in cooked noodles.

If you actually want to make it in the oven, you do so after cooking it all and top with the bread crumbs and an additional 1/2 cup of shredded cheese that is not included. Honestly? Just buy a regular box or a deluxe box, and you can replicate the thing for much cheaper by adding your own shredded cheese and bread crumbs.

This is one of the stupidest products I’ve ever purchased.

Amen. I got a bag for free at a blogging conference last summer, and I was not impressed. Like you said, some shredded cheddar or colby jack cheese and a handful of bread crumbs and *poof* you’ve got yourself homestyle macaroni without buying the overpriced product!

P.S. Did I link you at In My Bag? I can’t remember! I’m checking now. :)

That sounds super lame. I haven’t tried it yet because I’m a serious Velveeta addict, but it seems silly to put macaroni and cheese in a casserole dish and top it with bread crumbs and cheese like it’s a casserole. Maybe it’s just me,
