5 Flattering Swimsuits to Wear this Summer

Date Fri, July 12 2013

Let’s face it: it’s hot. It’s humid. I’m taking two showers a day. I can really think of very little that would increase my comfort in folds more than swimming. Cool water. Add some sunbathing or an old-fashioned grill out, and you’ve got a great summer day, am I right? Of course, as someone with a few curves, I feel a little self conscious when it comes to taking off my clothes and putting on a swimsuit. I bet some of you understand the anxiety this can cause. Fortunately, some bathing suits are designed specifically to help problem areas and make us look — and feel — better. So we can get into those pools and lakes and enjoy a little comfort. Just check out these options!

Barcelona Bandeau Control Swimsuit

This is the classic black one-piece that gives you a silhouette that’s to die for. Ruching helps to hide imperfections in both front and back, and the straps are removable for a sleek look. I love the soft cups, too.

For more bust support, the thick halter strap on this swimsuit from Victoria’s Secret is exactly what you need. It’s not just limited to boring black, either. It’s available in purple, teal, red and black with white polka dots. Like you’d expect from the lingerie company, the suit lifts and supports breasts. thanks to actual underwire Ruching and a small keyhole make the suit sexy, while your butt is fully covered.

Piping Hot Swim Dress

This swim dress is a little more modest than most bathing suits. It’s sleek in black and has decorative piping to add texture. The same piping also elongates your body to the eye, which can make you look a little slimmer. It has a gentle sweetheart neckline and, like the first swimsuit on this list, comes with removable straps.

Playful Side Avanti

This next MiracleSuit is a little more visually interesting. The floral filigree up the side is simple but sophisticated.  You can add support for your breasts with the optional straps, but the sweetheart neckline looks amazing by itself.

Man, if I didn’t like this bathing suit so much, I’d hate how long the name is. Still, it’s gorgeous. There’s serious ruching along the sides, which meets at a flat vertical panel down the center of the swimsuit to lengthen your torso. The suit has a slight skirt that extends over the attached bikini, so you don’t have to feel self conscious about your backside. There’s plenty of support thanks to mesh and actual boning down the sides, too. Finally, the removable halter straps tie into a gorgeous bow or maybe one that’s a little more sloppy if you’re impatient like I am. However, if you take your time, it’ll look great. This one is only available in black.

Although it’s currently unavailable from Bare Necessities, the website is running a 20% discount when you enter code BPP20 during checkout, which you can use on some of these other slimming bathing suits.
