How to Choose Comfortable Shoes When You Work on Your Feet

Date Tue, April 8 2014

If you work in retail or other job where you’re on your feet for hours at a time, it’s likely you need to find the most comfortable shoes for standing all day. However, you may not know what to look for in the perfect pair. Here are some tips to consider when looking for comfortable shoes to help your feet make it through the long day.

Proper Fit

First of all, the shoe’s fit is of utmost importance. If it doesn’t fit right, you could end up with blisters from rubbing or other symptoms of ill fitting shoes. You should have your foot measured each time you shop for shoes, as your foot size can actually change over time due to things like pregnancy or weight gain. Once you find a pair of shoes that seems comfortable, be sure to walk in them a bit. Look for slipping or rubbing. Be sure there is plenty of room for your toes.

Arch Support

You’ll want to find a shoe that properly accommodates the arch of your foot. This is the key to lasting comfort. If you have a high arch and a shoe with little support, your feet will tire sooner.

Shape

Look for a shoe that fits snugly around the shape of your foot. This can be tricky, as each foot is different. However, a comfortable fit is dependent upon how the shoe caresses your foot. You don’t want a wide space between your foot and the shoe, as this promotes slippage.

Follow these tips to find the most comfortable shoes for when you’re standing on your feet all day.
