I’ve seen a couple shows lately which make fun of Mr Rogers and his neighbourhood – Family Guy and Craig Ferguson being the culprits in question. I must admit, I am not nearly as nice of a neighbour. I know my neighbours on the left are not the people who lived there when we moved in. I know my neighbours above have a stupid rat dog with a yappy “Yip Yip” bark who I want to punt. I know I have new neighbours on the right because I saw them move in the other night (and they didn’t even use moving boxes – how ghetto!). However, I’ve never talked to any of them. I didn’t make anything more than small talk to my neighbours in Misawa, where I lived for 2 years. I didn’t know their names unless I read it on the name plate by their door. I never introduced myself. I am not a good neighbour like Mr Rogers or even State Farm. What about you?

I’m so glad things are finally shaping up around here. Save for a few broken dishes (surprisingly, only one coffee cup broke in the move) and a need for more storage (we’ll be buying bookcases soon for books and DVDs) our apartment it starting to feel like home.

One of the things that really helps this – besides having our own stuff – is our brand new bedroom furniture ,which I absolutely love, and mattresses which are much nicer than any I have ever used before.

I only wish that furniture shopping was so easy when we were in Japan. If he hadn’t needed to wait for shipping, only to realize that our furniture was also damaged and ugly (but oh-so-comfortable!), I would have been a much happier camper.

If in the future, we decide to replace the sofa and chair (or perhaps we’ll just have it reupholstered), we may look at a modern sofa. However, I’m very picky so it might still just be a hassle.

Also, on an unrelated note, I’ve just noticed some issues with the ads and EntreCard placement on this site. It seems that refreshing will fix the problem.

You know the one thing I’m looking forward to? Road trips. I don’t know what’s in Texas but I think I might like to (and in a vehicle with A/C to boot). I haven’t gone on a lot of road trips and they all have very specific destinations and routes but I do know that, with the right people, they’re a TON of fun!

We’ve been loathe to do that here being in a foreign country with tiny roads that are not named like American roads and without a cell phone but most of that won’t be an issue back in the states and, hey, we could always check out something like Garmin GPS so we don’t get lost!

As much as I’m anxious to leave and about not knowing what will happen, leaving the friends I’ve made and the awesome Chinese food, I’m really looking forward to being someplace with more opportunities and 24-hour businesses. This has been an experience, don’t get me wrong, but it was completely different than anyone could have imagined. I think I’ll be very happy to be driving on the right side of roads that are not Japanese and without other Japanese drivers. Of course, I won’t have the amusement of seeing them dragging their golf bags over the course through the dead of winter but sometimes you gotta make sacrifices. ;)

I really have not idea what the process will be like and that makes me nervous. I know they’ll do 2 shipments, one which will be expedited and one which will take several months. We talked about sending my computer off with the first one because we all know how I can’t live without it. Then I suppose we’ll have his laptop for a while but he doesn’t want to bring it on the plane, arg! I should invest in the DS browser or maybe something like a compact flash card so that I can use with public computers. I had been looking into USB and flash drives before was Ryan said to wait because he had entered a contests for one and then I forgot after he didn’t win. Pfft

By warm, I mean in the the lower 70s which is the point at which I become uncomfortable thus uncomfortable to be around. Of course, it doesn’t help when I think these thoughts that will soon be heading to San Antonio, Texas. And then it doesn’t help when I consider all the large purchases we will need to be making: car, bedroom set, insurance, and whatever else pops up.

I’m sure some people cool their bodies and heads by taking a dip in the pool and even Ryan has been perusing some apartments with pools but as swimming is not my thing, I’m much more likely to be shopping for parasol than pool floats.

Still, some good things are sure to arise from this and I look forward to them. Visiting family will by a mighty bit cheaper, stores will be more, more varied and open 24/hours, restaurants of every type will crave my patronage and activities will abound.
