One of the complaints people had about the previous tube, which was a hard style that flaired out toward the bottom, was that the wand couldn’t reach all the product in the tube. Quite a bit remained, actually. Tutorials popped up about cutting it open to reach the rest but I didn’t have an empty make-up pot to put it on so it dried out.

The new tubes are a soft, squeezable kind, like toothpaste. This means no more wasted product which is a plus for something that costs nearly $20 per tube. Nevertheless, you can tell I enjoy the product enough to purchase it again!

Basically, there was no place I was safe and it frustrated me to no end. My small and deep set eyes definitely do not help with this issue. For a while, I tried more expensive eye shadows which helped but only minimally. Without any other help, they weren’t worth spending 2 – 6 times the price I was spending on drug store makeup with such minimal improvement.

I first heard of Urban Decay Primer Potion – frequently called UDPP – years ago but, at the time, wasn’t wearing much make up. The word about it was awesome, though, and it was one of the few make up aids which were intended to make your eye shadow last longer. So I picked it up a few months ago when I found a coupon for Urban Decay and it arrived shortly after.

The regular size, which I bought, comes in a purple tube with silver cap. It’s cute and typical of makeup. It comes with an applicator wand similar to that of some lip glosses but which is angled. The primer itself is light, foundation coloured, and creamy. You can see it when you first put it on; it’s not sheer like some other products whihc isn’t a problem because I do cover it up but you don’t need to use a whole lot. The tint doesn’t affect the colour of eye shadow, either (there is a version of UDPP called Sin which does). The applicator seems to grab too much at a time so I always just use a dab and spread it on with my fingers. My normal routine would be to do primer on one eye, then the other, then shadow on one eye, then the other et cetera. But once UDPP starts drying, it does hinder blending a bit so I have to do my primer and shadow on one eye before the other.

I was amazed at the boost UDPP gives my eye shadow. It made the colours much more vibrant and I am able to use less product which is a pro I wasn’t even looking for. Of course, it really helped with creasing, fading and smudging. My eye makeup looks great all day. It’s not perfect at the end of the day but it is exponentially better, staying where I want it with only slight creasing. I don’t think I’ll ever spend more than a few dollars on eye shadow again; UDPP makes drug store makeup look and act like much more expensive than it is.

But it’s not a miracle worker. I bought some el cheapo eye shadow which tends to grace the stores around Christmas time and even Urban Decay Primer Potion could milk only the slightest bit of colour out of it. Some makeup simply lack the pigmentation to be quality. Period. Plus, t does seem like cream shadows work a bit better with it, than powder.

I’ve also used it under my eyes a bit for liner primer and it seems to work well. Urban Decay has a eyelash primer as well which I would look into but I think I’d try to get some mascara wands and see if UDPP would work just as well for that purpose, instead of having to buy a completely separate product.

Overall, I’ve been impressed with Urban Decay Primer Potion and it has definitely become a staple in my makeup collection and routine. I wish I’d picked it up sooner. The only really negative I have is something I have yet to experience: the wand has difficulty retrieving the product from the tube after a while. There are tutorials online to retrieve the unused product which I will likely try out when I get to that point. Perhaps a squeezable tube would be less wasteful.

There was a post yesterday over at Bijoux with a 30% off code for Urban Decay. Since I’d been wanting to try their eyeshadow Primer Potion, I took advantage of it. I thought there was a Sephora in the mall so I checked Dillards and Macy’s and JC Penney multiple times. After all that running around, I came ohm to discover it’s in another, further away mall and I couldn’t justify driving there just for expensive makeup. ;)

With shipping, it was still less than the original amount. The only downside is this message on the site:

Due to high order volume, all orders will be delayed up to 5 days. We apologize for any inconvenience

I guess I’m just used to super fast shipping.

The code is good until November 20: FNFW1
