My Perfect Kitchen

Date Mon, April 21 2014

I have had this post idea in my head for a long time. I just never got around to writing it — or maybe I wasn’t inspired at the time, but now it’s here for you to read!

A pull-out spray faucet is a must!

A pull-out spray faucet is a must!

Speaking of pulling out, I need a faucet with a pull out sprayer. The faucet has to be ridiculously high so that I can rinse large bowls and cookware. I also need a sink that’s taller than what I have now because it kills my back to do dishes. It wouldn’t be a big deal if I had a dishwasher that didn’t sound like Megatron eating chainsaws.

My perfect kitchen has lots of drawers because I’ve lived in places with too few drawers for years. Cabinets are low enough for me to reach because I’m a short. I really like the idea of frosted glass doors in a cherry or darker brown finish. I want cabinets of different sizes with lid holders for pots/pans, and pull-out drawers on top and bottom to access deep deeps and make the most of my storage area.

Doesn't this just look convenient:

Stainless steel is where it’s at. While I know many people swear by gas, electric is my friend. I want a dishwasher and an oven with drawers so I can use less energy when making food for and cleaning up after a single person — me! ¬†But literally anything would be better than the oven that I have in my rental, which has no window or indoor light and runs at least 50 degrees hotter than it should!

Through writing this post and stumbling across¬†BuildDirect reviews, I also see that drawer microwaves are a thing. As long as it’s built in and not taking up space I need, I’m cool with it. I don’t care much about refrigerators. An ice maker would be nice, but I honestly don’t use a lot of ice. Energy Star rating is a must! It doesn’t even have to be that big. Like I said, I’m just one person!

Floor, Walls, Everything Else

I would love an island given the space. I would enjoy dinners sitting on a breakfast stool and gazing out my picture window. (Ha!) A ceiling-mounted rack would also be awesome, but it would have to be low enough for me to reach. I absolutely wand tile in the kitchen, but I don’t know what kind. Low grout is a must. My current kitchen floor was installed poorly and the height difference between tile and grout makes cleaning hell. In fact, no grout at all would be awesome! I definitely want walls that are somehow decorative, but I think I need a trip to the home improvement store to figure out what I want exactly.

Mostly, I’ll be happy as long as everything in my kitchen works and works well and uses less energy than the older-than-dirt appliances I now have.

So what’s in your perfect kitchen look like? Perhaps you built it!

My sister in law has a drawer microwave. I liked it until I tried to heat up something tall in it. No go! It’s strange the little things we take for granted.
